Truth or Fiction?

On February 10, 2012, Politifact Texas posted an article about Rick Perry's announcements about having aided in shutting down 12 abortion clinics throughout the state of Texas. The opening paragraph points out that Perry made statements regarding his help in shutting down abortion clinics in Texas the day before he withdrew his bid for presidency. Coincidence? I don't think so. The article goes on to expose the facts (or lack thereof) about Perry's help. Sarah Wheat, who is the co-CEO of the Austin area Planned Parenthood, came forward to say that there weren't 12 clinics that closed, it was less than that, and that none of the closed clinics provided abortions. The clinics that were closed provided family planning services, treatment for STDs, as well as, "other basic healthcare". She also explained that any clinic providing abortion services would be "ineligible to receive any state funding", but the clinics in question had all been receiving state money until the close of the fiscal year for 2011.

Before reading this article, I had opinions of Rick Perry, and after reading it, the feelings I have about him are stronger than ever. He is a crook and a fraud. That is not the type of person I want leading my country or my state. Reading this article may not change, or alter in any way, your feelings toward Rick Perry, but it is still an article worth reading. Every registered Texas voter should know exactly who it is we have running our state. We can do better.
