On February 19, 2012 in the opinion section of the Austin American Statesman, a member of the paper's Editorial Board wrote an atricle titled, "What to do with Perry's fundraising leftovers...". The article was written in an effort to address the plans Perry has considered in regards to the money leftover from his abandoned Presidential campaign. He has asked permission to either use the left over cash to start a super PAC or use the money in his Texas campaign. A few contributors have asked for their money to be returned to them, while others have stated they would be glad to allow Perry use of their donations for his creation of a super PAC or to use the money in his campaign in Texas, should he decide to run for re-election as Governor.
It is apparent that this article's intended readers are any and all Texas citizens. The author has given a few suggestions to Perry, as alternatives to the ideas he has come up with. Some of those ideas include: donating to charity, donating to the Texas State Parks, and even, donating to the Boy Scouts. It is clear by the tone of the article and the arguments made that the author disagrees with Perry's ideas, and frankly, so do I.
The fact that Perry is trying to find a way to keep a mass amount of money to himself does not surprise me at all. It is my opinion that Perry give all of the money back to his contributors! If those same contributors wish to donate money to his gubernatorial election, they can do so if and when that instance occurs. The article reveals that creation of a super PAC, and the instance that he does not run for re-election, would mean that Perry would then be allowed to pay himself a salary. Many Texans are demanding that the taxes paid to his campaign security detail be returned since he dropped out of the election in January, but Perry is negating all responsibility for the idea of his security detail on the Texas Department of Public Safety. It seems he has an excuse for everything and will, undoubtedly, attempt to say whatever he needs to in order to get his way.
